Nicolas Bourriaurd is no doubt proud of his efforts. I went expecting to find things to rally against, and I mostly found goodness. Sure I found the casually pinned A4 signage of alternating colours a little bit too self conscious, a bit too ‘look at me’ but then that knowing is the battle I seem to be having time and time again right now, so maybe I should let it slip. That aside the show felt like it had a tightness to it, and a depth, in contrast to what memory I have of the last one, which seemed like a mess of works. The whole altermodern thing, well, I’m not sure I got that, but then I don’t get things that way most of the time.
